Wow, I'm blown away by the courage it must have taken to write this. I get so fond of my characters, I could not imagine writing an outcome like this. Of course, Mark is the weak link and Fitzgerald knew just how to press his buttons. The inevitability is so well set up, it's both shocking and satisfying. I also admire the complexity of these characters - they are flawed, likeable, stupid, idealistic, loyal, and ruthless, and they can't escape the consequences of their bad choices.

Damn… I never thought I’d find myself feeling heartbroken for Shultz of all people. I listened while I was driving and I didn’t realize how tight I was gripping the steering wheel until the theme tune kicked in and I was snapped out of my entrancement! The blue period of HH feels like a distant memory now…
