Hi Friends,
Let’s take a little breather from “Harmony House” today. Many of you are new subscribers (thanks so much for being here!) and don’t know anything else from me but that. When I began this experiment of Catch & Release in December 2022, I was producing all kinds of crazy vulnerable stuff for an audience of one, okay, maybe two. I had been bottled up for so long that all I wanted to do was experience some kind of release.
I’ve been a musician all my life and while music has retreated more into the background in the past few years, it remains a fundamental part of me. I performed a little snippet of a fictional song in last week’s episode of Harmony House and I think it awakened the part of me that dreams in music. I woke up this morning haunted by the song “Still” I posted about in January last year. I was inspired to rummage through my digital archives and unearth a demo recording I did six years ago when I was planning to make another record before I lost the will to put music out into the world. You can listen to it in the audio player below and check out my original post from last year where I tell the story behind it and do a live performance.
A demo recording of my song “Still” from October 2018 featuring my friend Tom Willner singing harmonies and playing piano.
If you enjoyed this, you can find much more in the Catch & Release archive. Through April 4th I’m offering 50% off the price of an annual subscription which grants you access to everything including both my serial novels with audio narration.
Thank you so much for being here and for supporting my creative work. I know how valuable your attention is and I appreciate any amount you dedicate to me. Have a wonderful week!
Peace & Music,
Ben
Note: Please excuse the stunning composition of this video production. Pixels are apparently expensive so it was important I save a few by cropping off the dome of my big head in this video. I think I was a bit too focused on getting the audio right, hence the little Darth Vader-looking contraption surrounding the microphone (also cropped out!) to block out street noise. Yes, your suspicions are correct. I’m a dork.
This song is hauntingly beautiful.
You're a dork with some very serious pipes and some very serious talent. I always love seeing your set up, it's got those 'mad genius' vibes. Thank you for sharing from the archives, I'm sure there's real treasure in there.
