I woke up this morning with My Favorite Things, sung by you, Ben, in my head. The realization that how we view Things now, after living so much good, bad and all the in-between, comes from a cumulation of experiences that can enhance our creativity...if we let it. Thank you for a shining interpretation of a song that makes my heart sing.
I really like your version, Ben. It's cheerful without being overly sweet. I enjoyed the story too, especially in light of my daughter's school having just performed Sound of Music as their winter musical. There's been some controversy swirling around it due to the use of Nazi imagery and this piece was a nice reminder of the real heart of the musical. I look forward to more songs and writing from you, and next time you're at Waller's I'll try to make it. Merry Christmas! Leah
Thank you so much, Leah! It would be wonderful to see you again. I will be booking some new shows in the new year so keep an eye out. Happy holidays to you and your family.
This reminded me of one of those NPR stories that you could hear while taking a long road trip to a family members house for the holidays 😀
One of my favorite things to do with our girls is to watch the Dude Perfect Christmas Stereotypes video before going to bed. Ok, not a classic activity, but from the summer to December 24th this gets us excited for Christmas with a laugh.
Whoa! You were doing Favorite Things a year ago! Yay!
Let's see, a Xmas theme: 1. Gingerbread warm from the oven with whipped cream, preferably in an actual man shape. ;) 2. The smell of a real pine Xmas tree. 3. Wrapping paper in every color of the rainbow.
I love this post - the history and the insights. I think your version captures both your 4 year old and 20 year old self well.
Thanks Tom!

Thank you so much Diane! So glad you enjoyed the piece.

Thanks Ryan! What a wonderful complement. That’s kind of the vibe I was going for with this piece.

Love your list, Ben. Beautiful.
