This was so fun Ben. We should start a new show: Writers in Rooms Not Drinking Coffee.

Super late to this and it still was a great listen!

Thank you, Kimberly, Julie and Ben for such a fun and interesting conversation. And thank you, Ben for Departures!

How does it already feel like ages ago that I finished that novel and we had that conversation?! I’m glad you enjoyed it Sara.

Such a great listen. Loved hearing all of your thoughts. Julie, that notion about babies and not being able to speak for a while ... 🤯

Ben, been an honour to be on this journey through Departures. Hard to believe it's almost concluded!

It might make a fun writing prompt someday. 🤔 (the babies thing)

Ooo, I like it.

Oh and p.s., I thought some of the Telepathy Tapes stuff had been debunked? Maybe I'm wrong. I heard about it and really wanted to listen, then read about it being somewhat debunked so didn't follow up. But now I will follow up. Sounds fascinating.

I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts about the debunking after listening to it. I can’t fathom how it’s possible, unless the entire podcast is hired actors and scripted!

From what I’ve read, there’s an argument over it being facilitated communication and that this is quite apparent in the videos on the documentary clips that one can pay to watch.

Having not listened yet, I don’t want to say either way or to discredit anything. The concept of telepathy is utterly fascinating. I remain open yet sceptical about it.

Hmmm. I’m not surprised it’s gotten pushback (based on the subject). Haven’t listened yet but def want to give it a try. A little skepticism is a good thing, and so is an open mind/heart. 🙃

This was wonderful fun! Thanks to all three of you!!

And yes, Ben, I am hoarding these last couple chapters to listen all at once. I’m enjoying the depth and consistency of the voices you have created.

When you are recording a new chapter, do you need to go back and listen again to the voice of each character? Or do they live so vividly within you that they just fall out perfectly?

Kimberly Warner's avatar

What a great question!

Thanks for listening, Tey, and thanks for asking such a great question. Performing the voices of these characters is such a slippery thing. Occasionally I do go back and listen to a passage in an earlier episode if I'm struggling to get it right, but mostly I'm afraid to do that for fear that I'll discover how far I've drifted over time and then I'll feel like I have to go back and fix them all! I will say it takes a few minutes of talking in that voice to really find it each time. It always starts out cartoonishly exaggerated until I dial it back and settle down into the subtle changes to my natural voice that make if feel "listenable."

I think it’s genius

"The opposite of love isn't hate but fear" and "Born in reverse." Well said, Julie. "Bengeable!" 😂 Great talk you three! 💜💙💚
