I am loving this story and this chapter kicked it up a notch. I love the way you are able to give me the sense of a place, I can see and feel it along with the characters. I love the spectacle they’ve come up with - and of course I really also want to know what Clem lost. So good.

Thanks so much, Robin! That’s exactly what I was hoping for.

“Someone who likes the long way into a story” is just a perfect description of the experience thus far. It’s a treat to be introduced to a new character with such firm, confident brushstrokes. And to see Kelly’s art through new eyes, albeit influenced by the whole mysterious setup to his viewing. Part film noir, part psychological thriller, the cinematic tone is working well. Clem is hooked!

Also, this made me LOL: “I can barely draw a square if you gave me three sides to start.” ☺️

Heh, part of growing up in the south gives you access to all kinds of ridiculous idioms. Thanks for reading, Julie. I’m glad you liked this one. It was fun to write.

Spine-tingling, goose bumper-y tale telling; I love it!

And what a spectacle, great idea, to show just the one piece!

And now, as well as wanting to know who the narrator is, I also want to know what did Clem lose and how did Daedalia know!

And like Julie I also laughed at “I can barely draw a square if you gave me three sides to start.” Brilliant! :D

This is strategic marketing by Lefty for sure, I wonder is this all his idea or did Daedalia add a little of her own artistic brilliance to the mood of the spectacle? I loved the dramatic feel!

I could sense Clem's desire to finish the coffee quickly and yet not make himself conspicuous in raising the cup above his head. Then the question, "Did you lose something?"how could anyone not be intrigued? so clever! And, your departing line... fabulous! I can't wait for the next chapter Ben!

Susie! I’m so glad you enjoyed this chapter. Thanks so much for the kind words. I’m excited for what’s to come. The pace will decidedly increase as will the stakes going forward.

What clever marketing! Though I doubt they called it that. :) And with a singular piece at the location, a perfect immersion. I get the feeling more than one of those paintings would’ve been too much. Fantastic, labyrinthian, original.

Lefty is all about the marketing. Sell, sell, sell! Thanks for being here, Kimberly.

My friend, you can deliver a final line and a cliff-hanger!

And I dig Clem already.
