Finally got this great discussion and thanks for sharing the recording. like Nathan, Iβve struggled to make live stuff but love the concept of it. Connecting here is so good! You guys have wonderful ideas that need to get out there and be in discourse.
I think thereβs something to the live aspect thatβs pretty cool, but I wonder now that you can schedule them in advance if some of the magic that comes from the spontaneity will be lost. Plus, everyone is doing them now so itβs not unique anymore. Iβve considered starting an open mic series once a week to invite people to read small snippets. Weβll see.
Yeah Iβm curious how your experience of this vs your private zoom live worked. I guess itβs a really different event even though both are live video.
I guess there's really not that much difference in the end, except that you have to use your phone for Substack Live but can use your cam for Zoom. I think there's a little bit more flexibility with the editing on a Zoom recording, too, if you want to go that far - I don't know if you can download a Live recording and edit it, haven't tried.
Such fun! Thanks again for having me, Ben! π

Thatβs also a cool idea about the open mic. Itβs a little like the very short lived House Party app!
I'm still not 100% sold on Substack Live myself, though this one with Ben sure was fun... Thanks Kate!

I never seem to make any of these live videos, but grateful for the replay being available!
Looking forward to this listen on the back of Kimberly and Julie.
The time difference between us all is as diametrically opposed as you can get... I like your new avatar btw...!
