It makes so much sense that Kelly is fine when the fame goes away because for her it was always the work that mattered, whereas for Lefty, Kelly’s “success” was the work.

It’s true — as a friend of mind is fond of saying: ambition and creativity are wings of the same bird. I have no idea what the bird is in this metaphor though.

Whatever the bird represents, it is interesting to note that ambition and creativity don’t inherently need each other. And may ultimately be the ruin of one or the other? This bird is in danger!

Oh, Lefty. Poor Lefty. Ambition can be a difficult and exacting bedfellow, no?

Ben Wakeman's avatar

Yeah, he might have a problem. I have a not so secret desire for a Lefty in my life!

Oh, no...self-destruction is like a virus in that family. :(

It’s a very human disease, right? Thanks for reading, Lyndsey.

It is. And it’s invisible most of the time. This is a great story. Don’t want to miss a thing.

Ben, you've done it again...! I am so relieved I will wait only one more day before the next chapter. Will Greta receive an answer? Is Lefties ambition for Kelly about to destroy her will to continue painting? Goodness, I've no idea how you will end this with so few chapters to go.

Hi Susie, I’m so glad I’m still able to surprise you this deep into the story. I have a better idea how things will end but I’m taking my time to write it. Thanks for being here, as always.

Oh no! Lefty! What a fascinating turn. More puzzle pieces falling into place. I do hope Greta is able to bring him back around. As surprising as this is, it also feels inevitable.

I know, right? I’m glad it feels earned. That’s always my goal to write something that feels inevitable without being a bore. Thanks for being here every week, Julie.

Oh dear, poor Lefty! Way to leave us in suspense at the edge of our seats! 🥺
