I’m so glad she got to have the gallery opening and show. I love the way she explains to Marabelle what happens to her in the throes of creating. Her muse is more demanding than mine — or she’s more willing to give over to it fully. The hype world of high-end art collecting is nicely contrasted with this humble community project. It seems that Kelly is beginning to make peace with the arbitrary way art is valued. Reminds me of Tom Wolfe’s books.

Thank you, Julie. I’m glad this contrast landed. The arbitrary assignment of value to art is something so confounding and a big theme of this book.
One of the strongest themes! We all struggle mightily with it.
I really love that Kelly had this. Well, her and Marabelle both. They needed it. Another gorgeous chapter, Ben.
Oh dear oh dear oh dear! Way to leave us in suspense at the edge of our seats! Poor Lefty!!
