That Lefty has such confidence in pursuing buyers/sponsors anyone at all to show or promote Kellys work says as much about his stubborn character as it does the faith he has in her work, trying to get his foot in the door of some of L.A.'s finest art galleries a gamble!
One I have a funny feeling may pay off! Greta is fiercely knowledgeable, wealthy and blatant about it, she knows every trick and knows how to win and maybe Lefty just fell lucky...
"Her eyes narrowed and she laughed. “I like you. And here I thought you were an ingratiating sycophant trying to sell life insurance.” Her words...
And then, "They left the gallery well before the event was over—her suggestion..."
He’s kind of amazing, right? I’ve encountered aliens like him before in my life and I think I find them more remarkable than artists just because what they do is so foreign to my nature. Thank you for reading, Susie!
I love being swept up in the tapestry you're weaving. I can so relate to the roadblocks and barriers thrown up by the insider gatekeepers, and imagine Lefty's discouragement and doubt. His persistence and firm belief in Kelly's work are a good lesson to not let "no" stop you. You've captured how random and arbitrary the creative patronage world can be, yet also their criticism rings partly true -- which makes it all the more difficult to digest. (Is her work really immature, obtuse? Too small, too shallow? Not marketable or complex enough? All questions I've asked myself many times about many forms of my own creative work.) His stubborn persistence pays off with a moment of grace -- a promising chance encounter. Another mythic dimension of this story -- a devil at the crossroads moment, testing Lefty's ability to stay true to himself and to his vision for Kelly's work. Bravo!
Greta Krieger - intriguing, clever. And probably dangerous.
I have a theory about her but would be spoiler to mention it here.
I look forward to reading more on how her relationship with Lefty develops and of how she and Kelly will get on - if they meet.
Interesting to read this different side to Lefty - not so sure of himself as he was before as he finds his way on new territory. But still finding a way with his charm.
Daedalia being celebrated as one of the greatest artists of the twenty first century means that Kelly and Lefty did keep that unpronounceable name ……. and yet, in Chapter 7, Kelly is being interviewed about her art, so somebody knows the truth ………
Lastly, for now, the more I read about Kelly’s work - the lure and beauty of it - the more I really want to see some for myself!
“It was a natural reflex that most artists have” — doubling down against advice… I love this — surely you aren’t writing from experience haha
Also, Greta is such a fun character! I’m behind so I look forward to more of her as I catch up
Hey Stephanie, I’m glad you’re here catching up. How’s that baby of yours?
Delightful :)

Bravo Lefty, you played the game perfectly!
Looking forward to the next chapter Ben!

Greta! I love this new character. And this whole interaction was just a delight to be immersed in. Can’t wait, as per usual, for what comes next.
Thank you, Holly. I’m so glad you’re here for it each week.
Ha! What a great new character! Greta feels both essential and disruptive. It sure which one will win.:)
Yes, indeed, if there was ever a character to be a catalyst, it’s Greta. Thanks for being here, Kimberly.

This chapter certainly did take me in, Ben!
